About Sealcon Cable Glands

Since 1989, Sealcon has been producing a variety of cable management products and electrical connectors, including cable glands, electrical enclosures, connectors, and more.

Their strain-relief cable glands are prevalent in the industry for the numerous benefits they offer. Here’s what you need to know about them.

What Are Cable Glands?
A cable gland is a device that attaches and secures an electrical cable to some piece of equipment. In addition to being known as cable glands, they are also called cable fittings, connectors, and cord grips.

On top of securing the connection between the cable and the equipment it services, cable glands can be used for sealing cables and providing strain relief in hazardous locations. They are commonly made from aluminum, steel, brass, elastomers, and synthetics, such as nylon.

What Types of Cable Glands Does Sealcon Manufacture?
Sealcon produces over 6,000 types of cable glands in a variety of sizes, configurations, and styles. However, for the purposes of practical investigation, this article will consider those that are offered by Products for Automation, which can be investigated online at ProductsforAutomation.com.

They carry Sealcon cable glands made of both nylon and nickel-plated brass. The models available on their website are compatible with either Flex Nuts or Dome Nuts with metric threads, NPT (National Pipe Threads), or PG (Panzer-Gewinde) threads.

There are some value-added attributes that are shared in common between Sealcon cable glands. They are submersible to 300 feet and either NEMA 4X or 6 rated, or IP67 or IP68 rated.

They are also rated to 150 PSI and are halogen and phosphorous-free, which is beneficial since glands produced without these materials release no harmful gasses or smoke when heated.

They are also resistant to heat; in the case of nickel-plated brass Sealcon glands, they are V0 flame rated.

When equipped with a Flex Nut, they are resistant to kinking and protect the cables within against chafing, and they are also highly resistant to corrosion, salt water, gasoline, oil, and weak acids and bases.

In addition, Sealcon’s strain relief cable glands are RoHS and Deca BDE compliant.

● Nylon Sealcon Glands: Features
Sealcon nylon cable glands are made with UV and ozone-resistant materials, making them suitable for use in outdoor locations. They also feature self-locking ACME threads and a safety ratchet which helps prevent their Flex or Dome nut from being pulled out under lateral force or working loose due to vibration.

Their nylon cable glands feature a molded O-ring groove and are liquid-tight and submersible. They also feature pull-out protection thanks to their overlapping, clamping splines.

● Nickel Plated Brass Sealcon Glands: Features
All Sealcon nickel-plated brass cable glands are easy to install and feature anti-rotation grooves that prevent cable rotation while tightening the nut.

They all come with an O-ring and are waterproof, liquid-tight, and fully submersible, making them ideal for marine environments. They feature a patented internal sealing edge between the nylon clamping insert and the nickel-plated brass body.

They also provide excellent cable protection and are resistant to being pulled out. They feature overlapping clamping splines which help prevent pull-out without damaging the cable.

Where Can I Find Sealcon Strain Relief Cable Glands?
Sealcon cable glands, which feature a number of attributes making them suitable for use in unforgiving environments, are highly regarded in the industry for their quality.
