LED Corner Floor Lamps: Going Beyond Energy Efficiency

LEDs took the market by storm about 20 years ago when the price of semiconductors that are used to make them fell precipitously.

Since then, LEDs have worked their way into all settings, from the industrial and commercial to the residential.

And there has been good reason for it – so if you’re looking for an LED corner floor lamp, guess what: LEDs aren’t just energy efficient.

Here are the other advantages they offer.

1. Less fire risk
While it’s not common, halogen and incandescent light bulbs (which are often used in residential lighting) can cause fires.

This is because they produce a lot of heat as a byproduct, and though they produce quality, bright light output, they do not do so efficiently.

A lot of energy gets wasted as heat.

LEDs, which operate at lower voltages than incandescent and halogen bulbs, produce much less heat, lessening the risk of fires.

2. Keep cooling costs down in the summer
The same thing goes for cooling costs. A number of incandescent bulbs can raise the temperature of a room substantially – which makes it expensive to cool in the summer.

LEDs, which produce almost no heat as a byproduct, will not.

3. No toxic components
Some of you may be familiar with CFLs, or compact fluorescent lights, which were for a while touted as the successor to incandescent lights.

They use less electricity, it’s true, but since they’re fluorescent lights, they contain phosphor powder and mercury – both of which are toxic.

LEDs do not; oftentimes, LED bulbs can be simply recycled.

4. They last forever
LEDs last a long time. On average, LED lights will last for 20 years or so before they need to be replaced, with some lasting as long as 100,000 hours of use.

Compare that to incandescent bulbs, which need to be replaced after around 1,000 hours. The long life of an LED is a money saver, too.

5. Better in hot and cold temperatures
Certain lights, like halogen lights and CFLs, are sluggish in extreme temperatures, particularly in the cold.

LEDs, by contrast, will reach their full brightness almost immediately.

6. Available in a wide range of color temperatures and output ratings
In the modern era, LEDs are available in a wide range of color temperatures, color-rendering indices, and of course, overall brightness – meaning you can get LEDs that will match the setting perfectly.

7. Modern LEDs are dimmable
Early LEDs were finicky, but modern LEDs are easily dimmable and many LED corner floor lamps are equipped with dimmer switches so you can provide just the ambient light a room needs when it needs it.
