Upgrade Your Carry with an Automatic Stiletto

If you already carry a stiletto, it might be time to upgrade to an automatic stiletto. If you don’t carry a stiletto at all, let’s change that right now.

Here are some of the biggest selling points of this pattern of knife featuring automatic deployment.

Speed of Deployment

The main selling point of an automatic stiletto is that you will be able to deploy it faster, and this is pretty much true across the board. Some automatic stilettos can be deployed in a flash of lightning.

They’re better than stilettos that feature manual deployment and still have an edge (no pun intended) over assisted opening stilettos because they are easier and more straightforward to open, not to mention faster.

Also, with an automatic stiletto, there is no learning curve, as there is with a model that features manual deployment. You just hit the button or lever and the thing will open right up. If you get a double-action model, you can open and close it with one hand and one actuator.

That’s not to suggest that you can’t deploy an assisted opener or even a manual model quickly. For the most part, you can. It’ll just take a little getting used to.

But, still, for a super-fast deployment in the blink of an eye, and entirely with one hand, there is no better option than an automatic stiletto.

Cool Factor

Say what you will about a stiletto, but this knife pattern is just dripping with eye-catching aesthetics. Cool factor, that is.

There are tons of drop points and even clip points on the market, autos, too, that don’t have the same appeal.

Now, if you’re looking for something really cool in the realm of automatic stilettos, get an OTF version. That is, one that deploys the blade out the front instead of out the side.

For one, it will be faster; these are long, thin knives and it takes a hair of a second longer for them to open out of the side. That won’t be the case with an OTF knife. You will be surprised at the speed of deployment.

The other thing is that, of course, an OTF automatic stiletto is just plain cooler, which is the entire point of this section.

Knife Blade Profile Utility

A stiletto profile is basically a needle pointed blade. They excel at one thing, and that is piercing tasks. Naturally, this makes stilettos and similar blades highly utilitarian for defensive carry.

But when used reasonably, even a stiletto blade can and will do most of what a drop point, conventional folder can do. The point will be more fragile on a stiletto, but otherwise, you could still carry a stiletto for general utility.

However, a stiletto will outperform drop points, clip points, straight back knives, and even tanto points when it comes to piercing tasks.

So, if you carry on the daily for defensive reasons, then a stiletto will serve you better than these. Just don’t try to baton anything with it or use it for bushcraft, survival, or camp chores. Save the drop point for that.

Which Laboratory Air Dryer Is the Right Fit for a Small Research Lab?

Small research labs put a lot of care into the instruments they buy and the procedures they run, but the compressed air feeding those instruments often gets overlooked.
