What Is 10 AWG Solar PV Multi Conductor Tray Cable?

A designator like 10 AWG solar PV multi conductor tray cable is a mouthful, but what does it mean and why does that matter? If you’re here to learn more about electrical wire and cable, you’re in the right place. Let’s take a closer look.

  • 10 AWG. American Wire Gauge, or AWG, is the standard used to measure the nominal diameter of a wire in North America. In this case, the diameter of the wire would be .101897”  or 2.588mm. AWG is an inverse scale, so the larger the number, the thinner the wire. Also, the thicker the wire, as a general rule, the higher its ability to carry a current at a higher voltage.
  • Solar PV. Solar PV is a bit of a redundant designator since it stands for “solar photovoltaic” which is, as stated, redundant. Photovoltaic arrays are those used in solar energy systems, so qualifying it twice like that is not necessary. All the same, solar panel cable must meet two important criteria: it must be weatherproof and it must be sunlight-resistant. As for its weatherproofing, it should be able to withstand exposure to high and low temperatures as well as precipitation. For obvious reasons, it should also be sunlight resistant, as the UV radiation in sunlight is often damaging to the synthetic materials used to create electrical wire insulation.
  • Multi Conductor. Multi conductor simply means that the solar panel cable in question has more than one conductor in the cable. Typically, there would be multiple conductors under one common sheath. These conductors are generally also individually insulated. For instance, the cable might have two conductors for power distribution, and a third for instrumentation and monitoring, though there could be others as well.
  • Tray Cable. Tray cable simply signifies that the electrical cable in question is rated for installation in cable trays, as an alternative to conduit. Cable trays are more flexible and enable easier, quicker access to the cables they carry than conduit does, despite the fact that trays don’t offer the same degree of shielding or physical protection as conduit does. Nonetheless, tray cable offers considerable advantages with respect to installation costs, inspection, repair, access, replacement, and more.

Where to Get 10 AWG Solar PV Multi Conductor Tray Cable?

Let’s not lose sight of the forest for the trees. If you landed here because you need a new supplier of specialty electrical wire and cable, look no further than EWCS Wire. Your Lease Has a Weight Limit. Here’s Which Sizes of Goldendoodle Actually Fit It

Pet-friendly apartments are already hard enough to find. Add a 30 or 35-pound weight cap to the mix, and the question of sizes of goldendoodle stops being about preference and becomes a real logistical problem. Pick wrong, and you could end up violating your lease or rehoming a dog you’ve already bonded with. Both of […]

What “Fully Automatic” Should Mean in a Breathing Air System

The word “automatic” appears on nearly every breathing air system spec sheet, and it rarely means the same thing twice. Some units cycle their desiccant towers on a timer and stop there. An operator still cracks a drain valve twice a day, still glances at the gauges to confirm the towers actually changed over, and […]
