Evaluating an AR-15 Casing Catcher

For those of you looking for an AR-15 casing catcher that quickly attaches to your rifle and is free from some of the ills of wire-frame mesh bag brass traps, the Brass Goat is for you.

The Brass Goat is a purpose-driven AR-15 brass catcher that is molded from ABS resin, making it weatherproof, extremely durable, and very resistant to heat – it will neither melt nor catch fire like so many alternatives.

It is easy to mount, easy to use, highly durable, and compatible with a wide range of popular cartridges and rifle features.

If you’re at the point of purchase but just need a little more clarification before buying, here’s what you need to know.

Will the Brass Goat Fit My Firearm?
The Brass Goat is designed to attach to the magwells of mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers. It attaches without the need for tools in a matter of seconds and can be detached just as easily. This keeps your Picatinny rail free for mounting other accessories.

While the Brass Goat is intended to be compatible with mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers, please be aware that it is not compatible with receivers that have left-handed ejection ports, side charging upper receivers or extended takedown pins. It is also incompatible with the AR-10, AR-308, and with the 6.5 Creedmore cartridge.

However, it is compatible with platforms that have extended mag releases, Magpul BAD levers, and suppressors.

Is the Brass Goat Compatible with My Choice of Cartridge?
One thing you need to note is that while the Brass Goat corrals at capturing your spent brass, it is not compatible with every cartridge.

Shooters of the ubiquitous 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington have nothing to fear. The Brass Goat will easily catch these casings and the hopper with which it is compatible will hold 30 rounds of these spent cartridges before needing to be emptied.

The Brass Goat is also compatible with:

●.17 Remington
●.204 Ruger
●.22 Nosler
●.224 Valkyrie
●.35 Viper
●.458 SOCOM
●.50 Beowulf
●6.5 Grendel
●6.8 SPC
●7.62x39mm
●.300 Blackout
●.350 Legend
●.450 Bushmaster

The Brass Goat also has a special mount making it compatible with the Smith & Wesson MP 15-22, rendering it compatible with .22 rimfire cartridges.

Will the Brass Goat Jam?
The Brass Goat features a unique, proprietary design that will not jam when properly mounted and used with the approved hopper attachment, as long as it is paired with a compatible cartridge. It is designed to deftly deflect spent brass and capture it without jamming, facilitating not only shooting but also emptying the hopper.
