The CheyTacⓇ M 200 Intervention and the Hype: Yeah, They Belong Together

If you’re here that means you’ve heard of the CheyTac M 200 Intervention, widely lauded as one of the most accurate rifles in the world, if not the single most accurate rifle of all time.

Developed expressly for the military by Cheyenne Tactical, and expressly to be able to engage targets at ludicrous distances, it’s surrounded by quite a bit of buzz.

But it is the real deal, which you could justifiably assume from the price tag. Here are a few things that justify its position, price, and mystique.

It Delivers Quarter-MOA Accuracy

Promotional materials state that the CheyTac M 200 Intervention can deliver sub-MOA accuracy, but so what? So does a Ruger American off the shelf.

This doesn’t paint the full picture. The CheyTac M 200 Intervention doesn’t just deliver sub-MOA accuracy. It delivers quarter-MOA accuracy.

That means, at a distance of 100 yards, it can place groups within a quarter of an inch, consistently. And realistically, in the right hands, it can do better than that.

It Can Actually Engage Targets at 2500 Meters

This thing is a long-range shooter’s dream. It was developed to engage targets at distances of 2500 meters and it has consistently done that – and much more.

Here, check out The Daily Mail for an article from May 2017 on this gun. A sniper using a CheyTac M200 took out an ISIS target at a distance of 1.5 miles – the bullet had air time of three seconds before striking center mass.

So, yes, the rifle really is that accurate and can make shots on target at near-inconceivable ranges.

It’s Also About the Cartridge(s)

Honestly, to talk about the M200, you have to talk a little bit about the cartridges with which it’s paired, for which the rifle was designed – the .408 and .375 CheyTac.

Both of these cartridges are manufactured to insane specs and made with precision, CNC-machined, solid copper bullets.

They push 3000 FPS, as high as 3300 FPS, and we’re not talking about a 55-grain .223 bullet. Even the lighter .375 shoots a bullet that comfortably weighs 400 grains.

With that weight and that speed, you have unheard of resistance to drift and drop.

At Least You Won’t Need a New Barrel

At these absurd muzzle velocities (which correspond to equally ridiculous chamber pressures) you might think you’d need a new barrel after a few hundred shots.

That is not actually the case. CheyTac asserts that their barrels will survive 10,000 rounds at minimum, and with ammo prices the way they are, it’s safe to assume you’ll never need a new barrel.

At least, if you do put that many rounds through one, you will have paid for roughly 10 times in ammo what you paid for the gun – and this is not a cheap rifle.

Where Can You Buy an M 200 Intervention?

All of this is to say something very simple. The hype surrounding the CheyTac M 200 Intervention is justifiable and the rifle is easily worth the price.
