Two Practical Upgrades

There’s not much complexity involved in the engineering of a unicycle, which means there are in turn relatively few parts, and of those that there are, many are basically the same as what the bike industry uses.

This means two things: there aren’t too many opportunities for making upgrades, and if you need parts, they’re usually not too hard to find.

This being the case, there are still a few “enhancements” that you can make to your unicycle, if you will. These are among the best of them.

The Seatpost Clamp

There are two reasons you might want to replace your seatpost clamp. One is to make it easier to adjust in the field (such as for multiple riders) and the other is to ensure a stronger, more secure setting.

Bolted seatpost clamps afford a much more robust interface and a surer setting, so for instance if your unicycle has a single bolted seatpost clamp, consider upgrading it to a double-bolted configuration.

More often, however, the practical upgrade is to swap out your bolted seatpost clamp to a quick release clamp that uses a lever rather than a bolt to secure the seat tube and thereby set the saddle height.

These can be adjusted in the field, without the need for tools. They’re also easier to use. Consider getting a quick-release with two clamps if you want something stronger.

Also remember that not all seatpost clamps are interchangeable. You need to know the right size before you can make this replacement; for instance, if your seatpost clamp is a 31.8 seatpost clamp (measured in millimeters) make sure you get an appropriately sized replacement.

The Saddle

The saddle is another great unicycle part to upgrade if only for how vastly it can improve your comfort while you ride.

A great upgrade is the Nimbus Air Saddle, which has a comfortable, durable sealed air bladder underneath a cushioned cover, and which provides a great deal of support while riding – even on a bumpy road. Upgrade to one of these unicycle saddles and you’ll wonder how you ever got on without one.

Don’t take our word for it, either – see client reviews and testimonials from actual riders that have used it.

However, if you’re not willing to swap out your entire saddle, just get an Air Saddle cover, which is designed to fit over your existing saddle so you don’t actually have to swap any parts out.

Where to Get Unicycle Tools and Parts

Even in the event that you’re here for a fairly esoteric unicycle part like a 31.8 seatpost clamp, Unicycle.com is the place to get what you need.

They sell seatpost clamps of various sizes (including bolted and quick release clamps), along with saddles and saddle covers, and a whole range of other unicycle tools and parts.

Visit their website for more information and if you have any questions before you get started with the project let them know; they’ll help you find what you need.
