Useful MP5 Accessories

Those of you fortunate enough to own HK MP5s, or even MP5 clones, might be interested in some MP5 accessories that can elevate your shooting experience or even streamline maintenance.

That being out of the way, here are some of the more practical MP5 accessories out there.

An MP5 Sight Adjustment Tool

Go ahead and rotate the turret on your MP5’s rear sight all you want. You aren’t adjusting a darn thing, besides the diameter of the rear aperture or notch.

If you actually want to be able to sight-in your MP5, not just spray and pray, you will need a special tool that engages the detents in the rear sight so you can make adjustments for elevation and windage.

If there’s one, single, indispensable MP5 accessory, this is probably it.

Spare MP5 Magazines

Alright, so it’s not exactly an MP5 accessory, but it’s close enough; and if you shoot enough, whatever mag came with your MP5 isn’t going to cut it. It takes a fraction of a second to dump the mag and several seconds to reload it.

Rather, you should stuff a few spare MP5 mags in your range bag so that you can spend more time shooting and less time loading at the range, especially if you pay for the range lane by the hour.

A Good Case

A subgun as hard to get (and expensive) as an HK MP5 deserves the protection of a quality gun case. Hard-sided or soft-sided doesn’t matter. There are good options in both. Just make sure you get a good one that will protect your MP5 in transit.

Also, all else being equal, get one that has a few spare pockets for keeping other essentials, like cleaning kits and magazines, close at hand.

A Cleaning Kit with 9mm Brushes, Mops, Etc.

The roller delayed blowback action of your MP5 might be a little bit more tolerant of fouling than direct blowback and gas systems are, but that in no way means you shouldn’t labor to keep the thing clean.

Get a good cleaning kit, inclusive of bore brushes, mops and jags appropriate for the caliber, then stock the kit with some patches, Hoppe’s No. 9 and some gun oil, too.

The bonus is you’ll be able to use the same kit with any of your other 9mm platforms, too.

Rail Adapters/Assemblies

One of the shortcomings of the conventional HK MP5 is that it’s not very expandable. That said, Zenith Firearms makes rail adapters for MP5-style platforms that give you the flexibility to expand the platform with Pic rail accessories, such as optics.

A simple MP5 accessory like this can overhaul the functionality and overall expandability of your platform.

2-Point Slings

A lot of shooters prefer 1-point slings simply for weapon retention, but when it comes to actually carrying the gun, a 2-point sling is more comfortable and more practical.

This one’s not an absolute must-have MP5 accessory but it is a useful one to have nonetheless.
