5 Questions Your Gaming PC Builder Won’t Expect (But Should Answer!)

Are you hiring a professional gaming PC builder (aka system integrator or SI) to build a rig for you? As you might already know, you’re about to make a serious investment into your gaming experience. However, before you hand over your hard-earned money, there’s something you should know. Most PC builders expect the usual questions, like “Can it run Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra settings?” or “Will it be ready for VR?”

Those are undeniably good questions, sure. However, what about the ones that they don’t expect – the questions that really test whether they know their stuff and have your best interests in mind? Here are a few questions that your gaming PC builder probably won’t see coming – but absolutely should be ready to answer:

Are You Building for My Future or Just My Present?

Every gamer wants smooth gameplay right now. But what about next year, or two years from now? It’s important to hear from the builder if your rig will hold up down the line and be able to play new titles as they’re released (within a reasonable timeframe, of course). If they only talk about what it can do today, that’s a red flag. A good system integrator should consider upgrade paths, future component compatibility, and emerging trends in tech. They don’t just build for the now – they set the stage for your gaming future.

What’s the Real Story Behind Those Brand Choices?

It’s easy to get lost in the Intel vs. AMD or NVIDIA vs. AMD debate. What you should know, though, is that not every brand fits every gamer. AMD might offer better value for gamers who need to multitask, for example; meanwhile, NVIDIA might better suit the gamer who also plans to stream their gameplay with top-tier graphics. Either way, if your builder swears by one brand without explaining why it’s right for you, press them on it. Ask why they’re recommending a specific GPU or CPU. The answer should be more than “It’s the best”.

Can You Walk Me Through the Airflow?

Most people never ask about a PC’s airflow until it starts sounding like a jet engine or gets hotter than a summer sidewalk. Don’t be that person. Ask your builder how the case handles airflow, how fans are positioned, and whether it’s optimized for cooling efficiency. Great airflow doesn’t just keep things cool – it keeps your parts alive longer. If they can’t confidently explain airflow setup, it might be time to look elsewhere.

How Loud Will This Thing Be?

Of course, you want your gaming PC to be a beast. However, it shouldn’t sound like one if the builder did their job right. They might get caught off guard by this particular question, but it’s still an essential one to ask. Make sure you inquire about the fan noise levels, the type of cooling system to be used (air vs. liquid), and how they plan on addressing overall noise reduction. A quiet PC means you get to enjoy your game audio without the background hum of fans cranking at full speed.

What Happens If Something Breaks?

Here’s an all-too-familiar scenario: a month after getting your PC, the GPU stops working. What do you do then? The builder that you choose should be able to clearly explain their support, warranty policies, and how they handle situations in which a component fails. Ask them if they’ll help you deal with manufacturer warranties and if they offer labor support if something needs to be replaced.

Why More People Are Trading the Third Glass of Wine for THC Edibles

The third glass of wine works. Right up until it doesn’t. You know the feeling: 9pm, the dishwasher running, something forgettable playing in the background.
