How to Wash White White Linen Couch Cover

A couch cover is a great way to protect the fabric of your sofa. Not only does it keep dust and dirt from accumulating in your upholstery, but it also prevents stains and spills from ruining the fabric.

A white linen couch cover may not be so easy to keep fresh and clean, but it does its job of protecting your couch with the added benefit of making your living room look classy and chic.

Fortunately, linen fabric can be washed and still be in great shape. Below are some wash and care tips for your linen fabric cover.

Linen Care
To wash linens, you can either hand-wash or machine-wash them. Both, if done properly, will not stretch or shrink your linens. If you do incur damage during the wash, it could be due to the fabric’s quality or the chemicals used.

If it’s possible, opt to have your linen fabric dry cleaned by a professional. Dry cleaning solvent is lighter than water, so it can move through the fabric much more gently than regular washing.

How to Wash White Linen Fabric Couch Cover
Turn the couch cover inside out and button all of the buttons, zip up zippers, knot up ties, and so on. Then, make sure your laundry has enough room to properly rinse. Linen fabric can be washed with other delicates, but not with heavy items like towels or curtains.

Machine-wash:

1. Wash in lukewarm (40°C/104°F) water. High temperatures can cause linen to shrink by up to 10% and damage the fibers.

2. Use the slow spin cycle and don’t overload the machine.

3. Use a detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Bleach should not be used.

4. Hang to dry immediately to minimize creasing. Avoid using pegs or clips that could leave marks on the fabric.

Hand-wash:

1. Add roughly a teaspoon of mild detergent to a small container (bucket or sink) filled with lukewarm water.

2. Allow the linen garment to soak in lukewarm water for around 10 minutes.

3. Swish the cover around gently. Wringing, twisting, or scrubbing the fabric might stretch it.

4. Drain the soapy water and rinse until there is no more soapy residue. Hang to dry.

How to Dry Linen Fabric Couch Cover
Pre-washed linen couch covers can be machine- (tumble) dried on low heat with ease.

When they’re still somewhat moist, remove them from the dryer and hang or lay flat to finish the procedure.

Another great alternative that will add softness to your linens is air drying. Dry your clothes on the line or flat on a white towel.

How to Remove Stains From a Linen Couch Cover
The most important tip for removing stains from linen is to act quickly and remove it immediately. Allowing dirt, oil, grease, and other stains to seep through the fabric will make cleanup difficult.

If you remove the stain within 30 minutes of the spill or mark, you’ll have a far better chance of success.

Scrape off any excess food or liquid as soon as possible. Using a damp towel and a drop of dishwashing liquid, blot the spill carefully. Don’t rub as rubbing will only make removing the stain difficult.

If that doesn’t work, try soaking the couch cover in a water-detergent solution. Then apply some dish soap and gently massage the area until the filth is removed, then wash it as usual.

Some stains are more difficult to remove, but you can try sprinkling baking soda and a few drops of vinegar on the stain and blotting it with a paper towel to absorb the moisture.
