Introducing HDPE’s Cousin, LLDPE

There’s growing nationwide concern about sustainability, which has influenced the decisions of both consumers and manufacturers and will only continue to influence trends moving forward.

Increasingly, manufacturers are emphasizing the use of materials that are less harmful to the environment and which can be recycled over and over again to keep them from contributing to the global plastic crisis.

High-density polyethylene, or HDPE, gets a lot of credit for its lack of toxic constituents and recyclability. But if that’s all you know so far, it’s time for you to discover LLDPE, HDPE’s lesser-known cousin, before you look for a new bulk supplier of clear flat poly bags.

What’s the Fuss with HDPE?
High-density polyethylene, more commonly known as HDPE, is a class of polyethylene plastic that is commonly used to produce milk jugs, plastic shopping bags, and other consumer products.

It is dense, strong, and highly resistant to chemical attack. It’s also resistant to pests and UV, and for these reasons, it is often recycled into outdoor furniture and other similar items.

HDPE also gets a lot of press because producing it is minimally damaging to the environment and because it can be easily recycled. Moreover, when released into the environment, either intentionally or inadvertently, it does not release toxic chemicals as it breaks down.

It is, however, only one class of polyethylene, or PE. For the manufacture of clear flat poly bags, wraps, and other such materials, LLDPE, or linear, low-density polyethylene is even better.

What You Need to Know about LLDPE
Low-density polyethylene or LDPE is a lighter, less-dense form of PE from HDPE that is commonly used to make plastic bags and wraps. It is more flexible than HDPE and has a lower tensile strength.

Similar to LDPE but not the same, linear low-density polyethylene, or LLDPE is also used to make plastic bags and plastic wrap. Like LDPE, LLDPE is lighter and more flexible than HDPE, but it is also very strong.

LLDPE has a higher tensile strength than LDPE and absorbs impact and stress very well. Though it is the most flexible form of PE, it remains resistant to tearing and puncturing.

Why LLDPE Makes an Excellent Material for Commercial Poly Bags
As you can imagine, these traits make LLDPE an excellent material for clear flat poly bags and other commercial poly bags. It is light, flexible, yet resistant to tearing, puncturing, impact, and other stresses – perfect attributes for plastic bags.

Compared to LDPE bags of the same gauge, LLDPE bags are stronger and have greater puncture resistance, though they exhibit similar flexibility.

Where Can You Find High-Quality, Clear Flat Poly Bags for Commercial Applications?
If the reason you are here is that you need a new bulk supplier of clear flat poly bags, make it easy on yourself and get your flat plastic bags from Edco Source, online at EdcoSource.com.
