Preparing For The Most Iconic Hikes in the US

One of the best ways to experience a new place, and get a great workout in the process, is to go for a hike! You get to see the wildlife, immerse yourself in the natural atmosphere, and really explore what makes that location unique.

You have to come prepared though. Below we’ve highlighted some iconic places to hike, as well as some useful information to take into consideration before you set off on your adventure.

Tongass National Forest — Alaska
This national forest is in the capital of Alaska, Juneau. It’s full of hiking trails — over 700 miles! This is an entirely new hiking experience that most people aren’t used to, with caves, glaciers, and even bears (oh my). You may want to bring a guide with you so you don’t get lost or hurt. One of the most iconic sights to see in Tongass National Forest is the Mendenhall Glacier, which can be seen on the Nugget Falls trail.

When it comes to tough trails like this, you’ll need all the support you can get! Anita Active has a collection of supportive sports bras that come in a wide range of cup and band sizes with adjustable straps and extra padding to keep you feeling comfortable no matter the challenge ahead of you.

Yosemite National Park — California
California is full of iconic parks. The most epic is probably Yosemite National Park. At 1200 square miles, this incredible park is full of great hikes unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The most popular trail is the Half Dome Hike, a 14-mile round trip hike that can take up to 12 hours! It goes up to 5,000 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor and will need climbing equipment. There are easier trails in Yosemite for those of us that are a bit weary of climbing during our hikes, all with their own stunning views.

John Muir Trail — California
Another hiking spot in California? Trust us, there are so many to choose from that it was hard to narrow it down. But this is one of the most iconic hikes in all of America! It’s 220 miles long and goes through all of the national parks — Yosemite National Park, Sequoia, Kings Canyon National Park… This is an incredible adventure for anyone who loves traveling by foot.

Smith Rock — Oregon
Oregon is another state that’s full of mountain terrain. You’ll see the greenest of forests and the most striking of coastlines in its 361 state parks. This includes one of the most famous trails in all of the states — Smith Rock’s Misery Trail. While it’s just 3.5 miles, it’s steep and full of some of the most brilliant views you’ll ever see.

Appalachian Trail
No list is complete without the Appalachian Trail! It’s on many peoples’ bucket list since it’s such an accomplishment and full of culture, nature, and adventure. It passes through 14 states from Georgia to Maine, allowing you to discover the east coast of the country. Most hikers will only take on one portion at a time, meaning you can always come back and discover even more.

Grand Canyon
This is one destination you don’t want to miss! Imagine hiking along the edge of the Grand Canyon! It’s an exhilarating and breathtaking experience you can’t have anywhere else. You can hike from the South Rim to the North Rim, crossing the Colorado River along the way. This is a fantastic tourist destination for nature lovers that want to see something you could never truly imagine without being there.

Ready to go exploring? Grab your grippiest shoes and remember to bring snacks and water for the trail. You will also want to ensure you have comfortable athleticwear such as warm leggings and supportive sports bras with excellent fit. For the latter, we have to recommend Anita, as they specialize in maximum support sports bras that come in a wide variety of band and cup sizes, and which are designed to offer a great fit even when you are on the trail for hours. Take a look through their website to find the perfect sports bra for you!
