The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX: The Best Project X Golf Shaft for “Everyman”

An “Everyman” golf shaft should be one that offers the best overall combination of attributes to your basic golfer.

We know, we know. There is no golf shaft that can do it all. Actually, we agree with that. But there are still golf shafts that offer performance that, while it might not serve the needs of every golfer, does a good job of touching all the bases nonetheless.

Among Project X golf shafts, specifically for drivers (the company makes a lot of steel iron shafts) that shaft is the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX.

Higher Launch, Medium Spin, Uncompromising Performance

The HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX is the highest-launching shaft in the HZRDUS Smoke RDX lineup, and it produces a modicum more spin as well, but that doesn’t mean it is or should be reserved for players with slow swing speeds. In fact, it performs best for players with swing speeds between 90 and 100 MPH, which is not slow by any means, though it isn’t blazing fast, either.

This performance is due in part to the fact that the HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX has a stiffer butt and midsection with more optimized torque for greater consistency, not to mention a better ability to withstand the rigors of more aggressive tempos.

With that said, it also sports a more active tip section that produces the aforementioned higher launch and spin. Higher launch creates more airtime, as does higher spin, which generates lift, and together these attributes can help increase carry distance and range.

Pair them with the more stable, stiffer midsection and butt, along with the optimized torque invoked, and you have a shaft that is ideal for a wide range of players who aren’t quite amateurs, and who don’t have super-slow swings, but which will also perform well for players that don’t have blazing-fast, pro-level swing speeds.

Another benefit these Project X golf shafts offer is that they are available in the lightest weights in the series, as low as 50 grams. This produces super-light swing weighting, which is another boon to players with slightly slower swing speeds, as it can result in higher clubhead speed.

Even so, the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX is well-suited for players with fast swing tempos, especially those with a quick backswing and an aggressive transition. It can stand up to it.

Together, these attributes make the shafts in the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red RDX lineup well-suited to a wide range of players of relatively diverse swing styles and powers. It’s forgiving and light enough and produces adequate launch and spin even for beginners, yet it’s stable and stiff enough to work for players that have progressed beyond the amateur stage.

That alone should make it worth your investigation.
