What Are The Three Basic Types Of Industrial Connectors

We live surrounded by thousands of little technological marvels that make our lives a lot less complicated than they used to be. The problem is that we never notice how important they are because we take them all for granted, and their function is literally to liberate us from tedious tasks and worries.

That’s the case with electrical connectors. Electronic appliances, like our fridge or washing machine, all need to communicate with a stable power source through a simple connector. So we plug them into the wall and forget about their electrical needs for years. However, these connectors need to be powerful enough to carry the right amount of power, but also extremely reliable so they don’t suffer from unexpected interruptions.

Modern appliances and devices not only require connectors that relay power from point A to point B, but they also carry information of various types so different machines and devices can safely work together in tandem. A USB connector is the perfect example of this as it can transfer electricity between a computer and a smartphone, and also allow them to communicate with each other in almost infinite ways.

Now, industrial and commercial environments often require connections capable of handling massive amounts of power and information through complex neural networks. Domestic connectors are not suited for these applications. Industrial connectors are designed to not only transport more power and information but also provide higher levels of safety and stability. Their sturdy and robust design has helped make the work environment safer for workers, and increase overall productivity.

There are many types of industrial connectors given the myriad of applications we can find in industrial settings. However, they can all be put under three general categories:

Threaded Connectors
These are a must in environments subject to constant vibrations (think engine rooms), where there is a need to ensure an uninterrupted flow of power. These can come in different arrangements to allow the mixing of power and signal contacts. The main advantage is that they don´t need to be retightened, and many provide strong waterproof features.

Push-Fit Connectors
These are designed with convenience in mind. The connector allows the operator to easily perform connections by inserting the bare end of a wire into an opening. The connection is usually secured with a clamp. These should only be used in extremely stable environments where cables remain static and out of sight.

Bayonet Connectors
This industrial connector brings the best of both worlds for a balanced product. With these, you can make connections quickly and securely. The male connector is equipped with at least two radial pins, while the female receptor has matching slots. They work in a twist-and-lock fashion, and the connection is secured by springs. These connectors are very stable and easy to operate. However, they are not as safe as threaded connectors.

Of course, the quality and reliability of your connectors depend on what your supplier provides. For businesses and operations that depend on the reliability of their connectors and components, we recommend Major Electronix Corp. They are a company with a strong commitment to quality and affordability for businesses of all sizes.
