What Makes the Accuracy International AT-X in .308 an Excellent Rifle

Accuracy International makes some of the best extreme long-range and precision rifles currently available today. Among the best of these is the AXSR Multi-Caliber platform, which is chambered in one of several excellent ELR cartridges such as .300 NM and .300 WM.

But there are other AI rifles such as the AT-X that are available in more common calibers such as .308 Winchester, which begs the question, why this cartridge for a rifle like this?

Let’s take a closer look.

.308 As a Long-Range or Precision Caliber

As an extreme long-range rifle cartridge, there are many better options than .308 Winchester. But it is still serviceable and has a lot going for it.

It’s hard to talk averages because there are so many common loads for this cartridge, but if you look at a common 150 grain FMJ .308 round zeroed at 100 yards, it’ll drop just over 4” at 200 and about 15.5” at 300.

So it drops relatively quickly and is susceptible to wind drift. But it is still accurate with the right rifle, as long as you are attendant to drop and drift.

What it really has going for it is that it carries energy, which makes it very popular for hunting (effectively any game in North America can be taken with it given proper shot placement) and that it is widely available.

The truly great thing about .308 Winchester is that nearly every gun shop has it and you can take your pick of FMJ, soft-point and ballistic-point, and even match-grade OTM ammo that is extremely accurate.

More on the AT-X

Besides the chambering, there are many other things to love about the Accuracy International AT-X. Here are a few:

  • It has a toolless, quick-adjust butt pad and cheek piece.
  • It has a rail-mounted rear-grip.
  • The forend has an integrated tripod-mount rail.
  • The stock folds (and protects the bolt).
  • It has several sling mounts.
  • There are numerous mounting points on the forend and chassis.
  • There is an integrated barrier support at the front of the chassis.

This is just a quick overview of some of the value-added features of the AI AT-X in .308, but there are many others.

What’s the Accuracy International AX308 Sniper Rifle Price?

Here because you want to know about the Accuracy International AX308 sniper rifle price? That’s a slightly different platform but it is available in .308; price varies considerably, but the AI AXSR, around which the platform is built, typically costs north of $11,000.
