What’s the Best Spyderco Knife for EDC? Here Are Some Top Options

Ask a Spyderco fan what the best Spyderco knife is, and don’t be surprised if it takes them a while to think it over.

Ask another, and don’t be surprised if you get a different answer.

Repeat the procedure and you may yet get another.

Point being, there are lots of great Spyderco knives out there, and yet it is still hard to choose.

But what are the best for EDC? Here are a few that frequently make “best of” lists.

Spyderco Manix 2

Not the least of the innovative features of the Manix 2 is the “ball bearing lock,” which, though it looks like a standard AXIS-style bar lock, is quite different.

This lock wedges a ball bearing between the blade tang and the backspacer, locking it in place.  This design allows the lock mechanism to be completely closed off to lint and dirt, unlike a standard bar lock.

The Manix is also beloved for its flat scales, thick blade stock, and full-flat grind that produces a very fine edge.

Spyderco Delica

The Delica is a frequent flier on “best of” Spyderco lists, for many reasons.

It is ambidextrous, uses great scale material with a grippy finish, boasts excellent steel, and is ergonomic, light, and comfortable to carry and use.

The lockback mechanism, though simple, is another favored feature that is both strong and easy to use.

Spyderco Paramilitary 2

The Paramilitary 2 is often right up there with the Delica. Also known as the PM2, the size, ergonomics, one-handed deployment, and extremely strong compression lock all make it a top contender for title of the “best.”

The standard PM2 features G10 scales and a S30V steel blade that also generate a lot of fans, as the steel, though hard to sharpen, takes and holds and edge forever.

Spyderco Tenacious

Robust is a word that describes the Tenacious best. Comfortable, rounded swells and lines that improve comfort and add mass typify this knife.

It’s great as a beater knife, making it perfect in a tool box, in camp and while hunting in addition to EDC, and for most knife users, highly intuitive thanks to its thumb holes and liner lock.

Spyderco Dragonfly

If the question is one of the best small Spyderco, it almost certainly has to be the Dragonfly.

The Dragonfly is only 1.2 ounces and 3.3” when closed, with a 2.3” leaf-shaped blade. It might look small but it’s no joke.

The use of FRN as a handle material keeps weight down even more, and this folding knife’s use of VG-10 blade steel guarantees both toughness and edge retention.

In other words, it’s a tiny knife with big potential.
