Why the Prybrid Is a Great Small Gerber Knife

Need a small Gerber knife? It’s basically impossible to find the Tri Trip Cleaver, Stowe, Dibs, or Pocket Square anymore. The Paraframe series is still good, too, but this is a novel suggestion that’s less conventional than those fixed and folding blades.

It’s the Prybrid, which is more of a multi-tool than a knife proper – but it gets the job done, and more than one of them at that.

It Cuts

The cool thing about the Prybrid is that it accepts a standard #11 craft blade. As a result you can replace it as needed rather than having to sharpen a blade.

This means if you’re near a hardware store, you’re near a sharp knife. No need to resharpen this thing, just toss it when it gets dull and for a few cents you can upgrade.

It’s convenient, cost-effective, and in some ways, better than a regular folding knife. That convenience factor alone should be enough of a selling point for this model.

The one drawback is that the blade is not as robust as a “true” knife would be. But guess what – that’s where the rest of the design shines.

It’s Not Just a Knife

The Prybrid is not just a knife, hence the name. It is an amalgam of different useful tools.

On the side of the tool opposite the blade there’s an angled pry tool with a claw, making it perfect for pulling up nails and staples, too.

There’s also a bottle opener integrated into the design, along with an eye that can be used for prying up fasteners.

The ends of the claws are machined to work as flathead screwdrivers, too, a medium one and a large one.

In addition, the design features a wire stripper and a nail puller as well, increasing the versatility and the utility of the tool.

Adding to this is the fact that it comes with a paracord wrap. Nice to have, and you’ll have a little bit of extra cordage as a hedge, if you ever need it.

One more thing: the price. At less than $30 (usually) this multi-tool is far more affordable than most other multi-tools, even those that also come from the Gerber catalog.

Just a few reasons this small Gerber knife is better than some of the other alternatives out there.

Other Small Gerber Knives Are Getting Harder to Find

While one might say that another small Gerber knife would offer more value for the money, the truth of the matter is that some of the best designs the company has ever come out with can no longer be easily purchased.

Models like the Gerber Stowe, Dibs, Tri Tip Cleaver and Pocket Square are either discontinued or otherwise inexplicably hard to get.

Fortunately, the Prybrid is still pretty easy to find and still competes effectively on price, too.
